Drive engagement, foster healthy competition, and build a thriving community by adding a Leaderboard to your team training sessions.
We recommend including one Leaderboard per team session so your athletes can celebrate wins, stay connected, and push each other to do more.
Here we'll cover:
- What's a Leaderboard?
- How to Program a Leaderboard Section
- The Athlete's Leaderboard Experience
- How to Review and Moderate the Leaderboard
What's a Leaderboard?
A Leaderboard can be applied to any Exercise, Circuit, or Superset. It allows athletes on a Team to log their scores for a specific training block and see how they rank against their teammates. They can also give virtual fist-bumps to celebrate each other's heroic efforts!
Leaderboard Examples:
The fastest time to run a 1-mile repeat.
The heaviest load successfully hit on a Back Squat.
Total reps completed in a 10-minute AMRAP.
Coaching Tip: Vary your leaderboard parameters from day to day so everyone gets a chance to shine—whether they are speed demons or heavy lifters!
Important Note: Leaderboards are specific to Teams. Athletes training independently on a Program or via 1:1 coaching will not share a leaderboard with others. Additionally, a single leaderboard cannot be shared across multiple teams.
How to Program a Leaderboard Section:
You can turn any training block into a competition right from the Session Designer.
Look for the trophy icon on the training block you want to rank.
Click the dropdown menu to toggle the Leaderboard ON.
Select the scoring parameter your athletes will compete on (e.g., Reps, Weight, Time).
Coaching Tip: We highly recommend adding explicit leaderboard instructions right inside the Exercise, Circuit, or Superset description. This ensures all athletes log their results in the same format for accurate rankings!
The Athlete's Leaderboard Experience:
Not everyone loves the spotlight—and that’s okay! Logging a score to the Leaderboard is entirely optional for your athletes.
The dedicated Leaderboard card appears directly below the training block sets and gives athletes a live look at the competition before they even enter their score.
Before Logging: The card displays teammate avatars and the current leader's Top Score. On the right, a blue "+" button will indicate the leaderboard parameter (e.g., + Weight, + Reps, or + Time).
Logging a Score: Once an athlete logs their tracking stats for the exercise, their leaderboard entry is calculated automatically. Tapping the blue "+" button will log their score, turning the button into a green checkmark to confirm they're officially on the board.
Checking the Standings & Giving Fist-Bumps
Athletes can tap the teammate avatars or the Leaderboard text on the card at any time to open the full rankings view.
The Podium: The top three performers are proudly showcased at the top of the screen with gold, silver, and bronze medal icons.
The Standings List: Everyone else on the team is ranked numerically right below the podium.
Your Pinned Score: The athlete's personal rank and score are pinned to the very bottom of the screen, making it incredibly easy for them to see exactly where they stack up against the competition.
Fist-Bumps: Athletes can tap the fist icon next to any teammate's score to reward their hard work and celebrate their heroic efforts!
Make sure that your athletes are aware of each training session's Leaderboard section and that they bust their tails to compete for their spot atop the Leaderboard.
How to Review and Moderate the Leaderboard
As a coach, you are automatically included in your Teams, giving you front-row access to monitor the leaderboard, celebrate progress, and engage with your athletes.
Note: Leaderboard standings can only be reviewed and moderated via the TrainHeroic mobile app. They cannot be accessed from the web-based coach Training Calendar.
From the Mobile App:
You can quickly review the standings on the go directly from your training dashboard:
Tap the Training icon in the bottom navigation bar.
Select the specific Team session you want to review.
Look for the blue Trophy icon and parameter (e.g., 🏆 For Weight) next to the exercise block and tap it.
Once inside the exercise block, scroll down to the Leaderboard card at the bottom and tap the teammate avatars or the Leaderboard text to pull up the full podium standings.
Keep the Momentum Going: Boost team morale by dropping virtual fist-bumps on the standings, and reward your athletes' efforts by calling out standout performances or PRs using Session Comments!
